Notes to Our Customers

We ask all our customers to please clean their blades before drop-off or pickup. Any blades that are not cleaned prior to us receiving them will result in additional charges or refusal of service. Food and oil debris can cause damage to the stones that we use for sharpening and lead to costly replacements before necessary.

We at Hammond River Sharpening reserve the right to adjust the cost of sharpening based on the condition we receive your knives in.

How To Care For Your Knives After Service

Here's some tips on how to keep your edge sharp and in good working order until we see your knifes again!

Do not put knives in the dishwasher! Always hand wash, dry and store your knives right away after washing.

If stored in a knife block, lift up before inserting or removing - applying pressure to the spine of your knife won't cause damage! If stored in an in-drawer knife holder - store them blade up! Our favourite storage method is a magnetic strip.

Avoid glass and stone cutting boards, as well as metal surfaces. They can all be very hard on your edges. We always recommend using wood, plastic or synthetic rubber cutting surfaces that are softer and easier on your edge.

Knives are not scrapers, use a scraper or the spine of your knife to scrape material off your cutting board.

Avoid cutting frozen food, bones and plastic packaging with your knife. We recommend using a cleaver if you have to cut through bone.
