Notes to Our Customers

We ask all our customers to please clean their blades before drop-off or pickup. Any blades that are not cleaned prior to us receiving them will result in additional charges or refusal of service. Food and oil debris can cause damage to the stones that we use for sharpening and lead to costly replacements before necessary.

We at Hammond River Sharpening reserve the right to adjust the cost of sharpening based on the condition we receive your knives in.

Mail-In Sharpening

If you are interested in having your kitchen knives, pocket knives or hunting knives sharpened but aren't local to the Greater Saint John Area, don't worry we have you covered. You can ship your knives to us from anywhere in Canada! For anyone looking to ship from the USA please fill out the form below and we will do our best to accommodate or recommend a US-based sharpener.

We only accept kitchen knives, pocket knives and hunting knives through mail in sharpening. Any other style blade can be discussed but may not be accepted.

Please note that the customer is responsible for all shipping charges.

HOW IT WORKS:

1) Please email us with the following information:

This information is crucial for us to be able to give you a proper estimate

- Your name, address and phone number (This information is needed to mail your knives back)

- The number of knives you are sending for sharpening with an approximate cost of what they are worth. (Needed for shipping insurance when they are shipped back)

- Please send a photo of all your knives together

- Please give us the length of the blade only for each knife (measure from the tip of the blade to the heal of the blade)

- Please note any rust, chips and broken tips on the knives, (please attach photos of any rust, and damage to the knives)

We will email you back with an estimate for sharpening and our address for shipping. Estimates are not final until we have the knives in hand and are able to inspect them

2) Upon approval package your knives securely in a box.

3) Ship the knives to us using Canada Post. You must provide us the tracking number.

We highly recommend putting insurance on the package

4) We will notify you once we have your knives in hand. Please allow us 7 days to sharpen your knives.

This does not include Shipping. If your knives will be longer than 7 days you will be notified prior to you shipping them to us.

5) Once we have completed sharpening you will receive an invoice for both sharpening and return shipping. This invoice can be paid e-transfer or by credit card. We will verify with you upon completion of how you would like to pay.

Knives will not be shipped back until the invoice is paid.

6) You will receive tracking information as soon as we have it.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR MAIL-IN SHARPENING:

- We ask that you clean your knives of any food debris and/or oils before sending them to be sharpened. FAILURE TO CLEAN YOUR KNIVES PROPERLY WILL RESULT IN A $2 CLEANING CHARGE PER ITEM THAT HAS TO BE CLEANED. THE $2 CLEANING CHARGE DOES NOT APPLY TO MINERAL OIL ON HIGH CARBON KNIVES.

- Please wrap each knife individually with paper and tape the paper closed. Wrap all the knives together with a tea towel so they aren't loose in a box.

- Package your knives securely in a box and stuff the box with crumpled  newspaper/ flyers or paper to add cushion and protection during shipping.

-Ship them with Canada Post and provide us with the tracking number. **We highly recommend putting insurance on your package**
